Saturday April 10th: Stories Event-Chapter Two: "Spring on the Farm"

Next weekend is fast approaching and we couldn't be more excited!! Our 3rd annual event to celebrate spring and give back to our community is being held on Saturday April 10th from 10am - 12 noon at the studio. We are inviting our clients, friends and family to attend and have a great time!

The charity we have chosen to support this year is the Dakota Woodlands. Dakota Woodlands is a non-profit organization who supply shelter for homeless families in our community. Typically families stay on average two months in their facility and they provide temporary housing for up to 110 families a year; and help an additional 30 families with their services. In November of 2009, Dakota Woodlands was awarded the 2009 Minnesota Nonprofit Excellence Award.

Specifically, Dakota Woodlands is asking for our help in collecting $5 gift cards to local gas stations and grocery stores. We have set a goal for us to collect 145 gift cards at our event and we think we can do it - with your help!! Or, if you would prefer to make a monetary donation, we will purchase the gift card(s) on your behalf! I know our kids have already dipped into their piggy banks to count out their $5!

Also in support of Dakota Woodlands, we will be having a silent auction with items such as a digital picture frame, a camping gear package , a board game package...just to name a few!

Of course, back by popular demand, we will have the facepainter (who is an artist herself!) and the storyteller from last year's event! The kids (and grown ups)were blown away by their entertainment!!

And if that wasn't enough, we will also be featuring the local businesses of Doodle Dot Designs by Tricia Prodoehl (handmade children's clothing and accessories to die for!!), Stella and Dot Jewelry with stylist Allison Carl (who doesn't need some new spring jewels?!?!) and the debut of Bathbars by Brynn (local bathbar artist extraordinaire!)

You won't want to miss this event!! See you there!!!

Puppies for sale!!!

Well, not really for sale! At least not these puppies!! When they came to us they were all about 9 weeks of age and MORE THAN ADORABLE!! They were all spoken for and heading off to their new families shortly after our photo session. Their "mother"/breeder, Colleen, wanted an image for her website to capture their sweetness and togetherness before they were separated to live with their new owners! (www.hugabeargoldendoodles.com) Many of them were heading out of state to their new homes!
It was a great photo session (a little messy...need I say more?!?) with lots of energy and running around (and not just by the puppies...Melissa and I were sweating by the end) And at the end, 10 adorable puppies left the studio (despite the fact I tried to smuggle one home with me!!) exhausted and happy!! And so were we!!!

Family of 3...(plus 1)!

Jackie and Jose came to the studio a little over a month ago with their 2 year old son, Jose, for a family portrait of the three of them before introducing Baby Jax into the family sometime in April! We were delighted! What a striking family they make! We were going to post these super cute family images next week but we received the great news this afternoon that Baby Jax has made an early arrival, we couldn't wait to share their images! Everyone is happy and healthy...and we simply cannot wait to photography Jax in the next few days for his newborn session! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Happy Dixie Cup Day!!!

Happy Dixie Cup Day!!! In celebration of this invention - introduced in the USA in 1907 in Boston, MA. Who knew?!?! In the early days of the Dixie cup, there was a public education campaign about the health benefits of the disposable drinking cup. Nowadays, there are hundreds of designs, including these fancy ones at the Miroslavich household! And for those of us who are environmental conscious, Dixie Cups are recyclable! You learn something new everyday.....

"Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil...."

These siblings were hysterical together! Braydon and Brooke are 3 year old twins and Bryanna is their (almost) 7 year old big sister! They came to us when the twins were just a year old for their first sibling portrait and then came back recently for an updated portrait of the siblings. We had a ball in the studio and the kids played hide and seek which resulted in lots of giggles and laughter! Nothing sounds better to us than listening to the sweet sounds of kids having fun!! We look forward to their next visit to the studio...which may include some tu-tus for the girls!! (I can hardly wait!!)

National Earmuff Day!!!

So maybe given the weather this week, it should be National Umbrella Day (that is actually May 13th, in case you were wondering!), however today is National Earmuff Day! Who knew?!?! Chester Greenwood invented the earmuff in 1873, at the age of 15 in Farmington, Maine. So when you are out and about doing your weekend errands or outings, strap on some earmuffs and celebrate this great invention!

Winter Wonderland!

Honestly, when it came time to choose some images to share on the blog from this session, I had such a hard time deciding which ones to post, I had to post a lot of them! Lauren and her mom came to us for a session as winter began and this first image reminds me of a beautiful Russian girl styling it up in a cute faux fur hat! In addition to some wintery images outdoors, Lauren enjoyed the tutu and our fancy feathery-flower hat for her session! And we adored captioning the relationship between Lauren and her mom...they are two wonderful ladies!

Maggie - Class of 2010

We recently photographed Maggie's senior session - what a blast! We all rocked out to Lady Gaga and Amy Winehouse in the studio. It is a pleasant change from our recent run on toddler sessions (there is only so much of the Wiggles that we can endure in one week)! Maggie is a refreshing senior who is also a very talented artist. Check out the amazing sculpture she created and brought to the session. We were blown away! (also blown away was Maggie during the session when I used a leaf blower to create some wind and had it on high! Lesson learned...we will stick to the lower settings!!) We are looking forward to Maggie and her brother and sister returning next month for a sibling session! See you soon!!

Happy Birthday, Dr Suess!!!

In honor of the great man and author, we salute Dr Suess and wish him, "Happy Birthday!" Dr Suess would have turned 106 today! We say happy birthday and THANK YOU for years and years of great stories to read to our children (and ourselves!) Also, Read Across America is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. One part of the project is National Read Across America Day, an observance in the United States held today March 2.
So today, to observe this great birthday, have some green eggs and ham, say hi to a cat in a hat and put a fox in socks! But above all, celebrate reading with someone you love!!
